Blundstone Sizing Guide Australia: How to Find Your Perfect Fit

Blundstone sizing trips people up more than almost any other footwear brand — and it's not your fault. The size on the box can be ambiguous, they don't make true half sizes in the way most brands do, and the pull-on design means fit feels different to a laced shoe. Get it wrong and you'll know about it within the first hour of wear.

This guide covers everything you need to know to get your Blundstones right the first time — whether you're buying for yourself or the kids.

Why Bstore lists Blundstone in UK sizing

Blundstone is an Australian brand, but if you've ever looked at the size on the box and felt confused — you're not imagining it. The box displays AU/UK sizing together, which makes sense on paper but creates real confusion in practice.

Here's why: most Blundstone boots are unisex, which means the same boot is worn by both men and women. Australian men's and women's shoe sizes are different — an AU women's 8 and an AU men's 8 are not the same foot length — so "AU sizing" means different things depending on who's wearing the boot. That ambiguity is exactly the kind of thing that leads to ordering the wrong size.

At Bstore we list all Blundstones in UK sizing only. UK sizing is unisex — a UK 7 is a UK 7 regardless of gender — which makes it a cleaner, more reliable reference point when you're buying online. All sizing in this guide uses UK sizing for the same reason.

The practical conversion: UK sizing and Australian men's sizing are equivalent, so if you know your Australian men's size you already know your UK size. If you normally shop in Australian women's sizing, add one size to get your UK size — so an AU women's 8 is a UK 7.

How to measure your foot at home

  1. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor against a wall
  2. Stand with your heel against the wall, foot flat on the paper
  3. Mark the tip of your longest toe with a pen or pencil
  4. Measure the distance from the wall to the mark in centimetres
  5. Use the chart below to find your UK size

Always measure both feet and size for the larger one.

* Half sizes share the same foot length measurement as the whole size below — they add width, not length. See the section below for what this means for your fit.

Do Blundstone half sizes add length or width?

This is the most misunderstood thing about Blundstone sizing — and the official size chart proves it clearly.

Blundstone half sizes add width, not length.

Look at the chart: a UK 7.5 has the same foot length measurement as a UK 7 (25.4 cm). A UK 8.5 is the same length as a UK 8 (26.2 cm). The half size is a wider cut of the same last — not a longer one.

What this means in practice:

  • If your foot measurement puts you squarely in a whole size, buy the whole size
  • If you have a wider foot or broader forefoot, the half size up from your whole size may be more comfortable — same length, more room across the foot
  • If you're between two whole sizes in length, size up to the next whole size — the half size won't bridge a length gap

This is one of those things genuinely worth knowing before you buy, because the pull-on construction means there's no lace adjustment to compensate for a slightly off fit.

Should you size up or down in Blundstones?

Blundstones are designed with a little room in the toe box — this is intentional. A pull-on boot needs enough space to get your foot in and out comfortably, and the leather upper will soften and mould slightly with wear.

Most people find their true UK size fits well. However:

  • If you have narrow feet — you may find your true size feels slightly loose. Going down a half size reduces width but not length, so it won't fix a boot that's too long. A thicker sock is often a better solution for narrow feet than sizing down
  • If you have wide feet — try the half size up from your whole size before going up a full size. Same length, more width
  • If you're between sizes in length — always size up to the next whole size

Does the style affect the fit?

Yes, slightly — though less so than with Birkenstock where each style can vary significantly.

The classic Blundstone Chelsea boot silhouette is consistent across most heritage and lifestyle styles. The 585 — one of our most popular styles at Bstore — fits true to the standard size chart and is a reliable first purchase if you're new to the brand. The upper is relatively roomy through the toe box, which most people find comfortable for all-day wear.

The 1351 — an exclusive Bstore style for women — also fits to the standard chart. It's worth noting that women buying Blundstones for the first time sometimes find the standard fit slightly generous through the ankle, which is normal for a unisex-lasted boot. A fitted sock or an insole can help dial in the fit if needed.

Blundstone kids' sizing

Kids' Blundstones size differently to the adult range — they run from size 7 (toddler) through to size 3, where they meet the adult sizing range. Here's the official kids' size chart:

Kids' Size Foot length EU Size
7 14.4 cm 24
8 15.2 cm 26
9 16.1 cm 27
10 16.9 cm 28
11 17.7 cm 29
12 18.6 cm 31
13 19.5 cm 32
1 20.3 cm 33
2 21.2 cm 34
3 22.0 cm 36

A few things worth knowing when sizing kids:

  • Kids' size 3 (22.0 cm) meets adult size 3 (22.0 cm) — if your child is transitioning out of kids' sizing, try both and see which fits better through the ankle and instep
  • Allow around 1 cm of growing room — enough to grow into without the boot being so loose it causes blisters
  • Kids' Blundstones run slightly narrower through the foot than adult styles, which suits most children's feet well

Breaking in your Blundstones

New Blundstones can feel stiff through the ankle and across the upper for the first few wears. This is normal — the leather softens quickly with wear and the boot will mould to your foot within one to two weeks of regular use.

Start with shorter wear periods and build up. If you experience specific rubbing at the ankle, a thin heel grip or blister-prevention tape on the problem area will get you through the break-in period comfortably.
