What size Birkenstock should I get?
May 14, 2026
Finding the right Birkenstock size is easier than you think — and getting it right makes all the difference to comfort and support.
Length: How to Choose Your Size
Birkenstocks generally fit true to size, but you should always leave about 5 mm of space in front of your toes and at the back of your heel. This allows your foot to move naturally within the footbed without touching the edge of the footbed.
If you’re between sizes, most people size down, as Birkenstock footbeds are quite roomy.
Width: Regular vs Narrow Fit
Birkenstock offers two widths to accommodate different foot shapes:
- Regular Fit – Best for medium to wide feet.
- Narrow Fit – Best for slim to medium feet.
Most people are surprised to learn they often fit the narrow width comfortably, as the regular can sometimes feel very spacious.
Style Fit Differences
Some Birkenstock styles naturally feel wider or narrower:
- Gizeh – Runs more narrow due to its thong design, making it a great option for slimmer or low-volume feet.
- Arizona – Feels wider, with adjustable straps that suit broader or higher-volume feet beautifully.
Quick Tips
- Try them on later in the day when your feet are slightly swollen.
- Adjust the straps so they sit gently — not tight — against the foot.
- Your toes should never sit on the rim of the footbed.
