Common materials and how to care for them:
Care for Leather Uppers
- Cleaning: Wipe the leather with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. For deeper cleaning, use a mild leather cleaner or a FRANKiE4 leather cleaner.
- Conditioning: Apply a leather conditioner regularly to keep the leather soft and supple, preventing cracking and drying.
- Protection: Use a water and stain protector spray to safeguard against moisture and stains. Reapply after cleaning or exposure to rain.
Popular care products: leather conditioner, leather sponge, waterproofing spray, silicone brush.
Care for Suede and Nubuck Uppers
- Cleaning: Gently brush the surface with a suede/nubuck brush to remove dirt and refresh the texture. For stubborn stains, use a specialized suede cleaner.
- Protection: Apply a water and stain protector designed for suede and nubuck materials to help repel moisture and dirt.
- Maintenance: Regular brushing helps maintain the nap and appearance of suede or nubuck over time.
Popular care products: suede shampoo, waterproofing spray, silicone brush, suede block.
Care for Fabric Uppers
- Cleaning: Use a soft brush or cloth with mild soap and water to clean fabric uppers. Avoid soaking the fabric as it may lose shape.
- Drying: Allow the shoes to air dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause fading or shrinkage.
- Protection: Spray fabric uppers with a water and stain protector to prevent stains and make cleaning easier.
Popular care products: waterproofing spray, silicone brush.
Care for Synthetic Uppers
- Cleaning: Wipe down synthetic uppers with a damp cloth or sponge. Use a mild soap solution for deeper cleaning.
- Protection: Although synthetic materials are more resistant to water, applying a water and stain protector can still help prevent staining and prolong the appearance of the shoes.
- Avoid Heat: Keep synthetic shoes away from heat sources to prevent warping or cracking.
Popular care products: sneaker wipes.
Care for Patent Leather Uppers
- Cleaning: Wipe the patent leather with a soft, damp cloth to remove any dirt. For tougher scuffs, use a patent leather cleaner.
- Shine: Buff the surface with a dry, soft cloth to restore the glossy finish.
- Protection: Avoid exposure to extreme heat or prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause the patent leather to lose its shine or crack over time.
Popular care products: sneaker wipes, patent leather cleaner.
