Fluidform Process

ECCO engineer their own 3D lasts which are designed to follow the foot's natural contours and support the footbed from all sides. These lasts are replicated into a flexible form via ECCO's Fluidform process which simultaneously generates a durable bond between the upper and sole of the shoe.

Comfort Insoles

ECCO shoes feature insoles that are designed for improved comfort and foot health. The foundation of ECCO's removable insoles is the ECCO Comfort Fibre System (ECFS), while the top layer is either constructed from leather, Poliyou®, or a combination of leather and textile. A 'pump' effect is activated when walking in ECCO shoes, which pushes air through tiny holes in the lining in order to promote air circulation underneath the foot.

Sustainable Leather

ECCO has been a member of the Leather Working Group since 2010. ECCO’s tanneries in Indonesia, the Netherlands, Thailand, and - most recently - China have again been awarded with a Gold Rating from The Leather Working Group.

Most Birkenstock styles are available in 'regular' or 'narrow' width.

Narrow width is suitable for narrow to slender feet.

Regular width is suitable for normal to wide feet.

If you already own a pair of Birkenstocks or are trying them on in store - check out the little foot symbol on the footbed. If the foot is coloured in, it's a narrow (N). If it's just an outline of a foot, it's a regular (R).
