It's All About The Footbed

A lot goes into the construction of the iconic Birkenstock footbed. Natural latex is used to bind the cork and create the contoured foundation(2), two layers of jute provide flexibility and durability (1, 3), and water based, solvent free adhesives bring it all together. Top it off with a suede or animal-free lining (4) and the result - a truly supportive footbed that follows the contours of your feet and moves with you.

Sustainable And Supportive

The Birkenstock cork footbed is legendary, not only for its comfort and support, though also for its sustainability. The cork is responsibly sourced from the outer layer of the cork oak tree. Sections of the thick bark are carefully removed without harming the tree, allowing it to regenerate and be re-harvested every 7-9 years. A single cork oak tree can produce 100 - 200 kg of cork in its lifetime!

Birkenstock Microfibre

Microfibre fabric is a durable material which encourages the circulation of air and has excellent moisture-wicking properties.

Most Birkenstock styles are available in 'regular' or 'narrow' width.

Narrow width is suitable for narrow to slender feet.

Regular width is suitable for normal to wide feet.

If you already own a pair of Birkenstocks or are trying them on in store - check out the little foot symbol on the footbed. If the foot is coloured in, it's a narrow (N). If it's just an outline of a foot, it's a regular (R).

Slippers are great - easy to slip on and warm but not too warm. They need wearing on like all Birkenstock?s.
