Fashion magazines would have you believe that the most in-demand footwear for this autumn are the spike heels fashioned from nuts and bolts flaunted at Miu Miu’s show. They may look striking, but who wants to walk around all day with half a toolbox under their heel? It’s far better to look at the ways your favourite Bstore brands have incorporated the more subtle catwalk fads to create fabulous footwear for feel-good feet.
Cute and Comfy Flats and Pumps
Thankfully, catwalks didn’t just exhibit exquisite instruments of torture. Dolce and Gabbana showcased flats inspired by medieval Europe, and several other designers nodded to rich fabrics and brocades, suede, embellishments and animal prints. Hush Puppies, Naturalizer and Merrell have all produced new shoes this season featuring snake-like prints and graphics without the venom of spike heels.
Papillio by Birkenstocks can always be relied upon to create an orthotic and anatomically correct take on the latest catwalk trends. They haven’t let this one sail by! We’ve got a Gizeh style sandal with an Anaconda-inspired print and a Tabora sandal in a bold zebra print. Papillio products offer the quality and comfort of Birkenstocks with fashion conscious uppers. All are produced in limited numbers, so move fast to catch them.
Shoes with a sporty twist weren’t just for the runners behind the scenes at Fashion Week. Chanel featured bold, bright runners, while DKNY showcased platform runners with a bright white sole. Chunky rather than sleek is the order of the day, and there are plenty of parallels in the new arrivals from some of our favourite brands.
Skechers’ Go Walk style features a solid white sole and Super Sock upper for incredible stretch and comfort and comes in a range of colours, including bright turquoise and hot pink. Merrell always has a great choice of casual shoes and runners. Their Merrell Allout Bold and Burst styles give you the option of Velcro or lace-up closures. Allout Bold styles have breathable mesh linings and cushioning soles to keep you feeling light on your feet.
As the weather turns wetter, it’s time to think about swapping your sunny-day sandals for bright boots. As ever, Hunter is the default option for waterproof boots with style. Donna Karan’s cut-away booties were popular on the catwalk, and for a practical, shorter-length boot, Bstore has just taken delivery of Hunter Boots’ ankle-high Chelseas. Available in bold colours like peacock and crimson red, they offer the waterproof protection and comfort you expect from Hunter without the full length.
If full-on boots are what you’re searching for, shoe designer Derek Lam made a virtue this season of exaggerated wide uppers and low heels; in other words, the perfect Hunter boot shape. Take a look at the Hunter original slim in their new textured finish. Unusually for a gumboot, they feature a concealed zip closure and are stylish enough to replace everyday knee-high boots with a touch of Hunter luxury.
